"I am Yon Kepa Aguirrezabalaga Azanza and people know me as Txonpe. 1 was born in Zumaia in 1961. As a child, my passion was the sea. As a young man 1 was a lifeguard on ltzurun beach and one of the first people who introduced surfing in Gipuzkoa in the 80s.
Following a couple of strong blows with the board I decided to stop surfing and the board that accompanied me for years was transformed into who is now my faithful traveling companion; a 12-meter sailboat called Luma, which in Basque it means, pen.
I define myself as a lone navigator, and I am passionate about finding simple solutions with the available resources to the problems that may arise in any type of boats, my hobby, reading the clouds and sailing with the dolphins.
As a professional skipper in the Mediterranean; specifically, in the Balearic Islands, in Denia, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, Turkey, Greek Islands and Croatia.Today, I advise on the preparation of navigation routes and specific techniques FCAS people who want to sail in other different seas to the Gulf of Vizcaya.
The transports I have made are quite a few among which I would highlight the route, Canarias-Zumaia, Canarias- Cuba, England-Zumaia, Barcelona-Canary Islands by sailboat.
With more than 30 years of experience in navigation, at this stage of my life I enjoy teaching more. Teaching allows me to transmit knowledge and experience to people who are wanting to open a path in the sea both to enjoy it and to dedicate themselves to it.
I am a lover of the Basque Coast, I know her even better than the palm of my hand, and if you leave, I would like you to embark to teach you interesting treasures that can only be reached by sea. They are the pearls of a coast that still today, for many is still a great unknown."
